Highlights-Varsity Cross Country and Track. Competed in AAU Jr Olympic Nationals.
College
Rush Chairman of Nu Chapter Kappa Delta Rho at IU. Two time veteran of the Little 500 cycling race. Member of Arnold Air Society and Army ROTC. Worked at Kilroy's. Partied hard, lived large. I miss the guys at 1503 East 3rd Street.

Military
Major Yarvis holds a PhD in social work from the University of Georgia and is currently an assistant professor of family medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He just ended his assignment as the G9 Civil-Military Operations Officer and Sr. Behavioral Health Officer for the "Dirty" 30th Medical Brigade in Heidelberg, Germany. After a brief enlistment in the Indiana National Guard in 1986 he received his commission from Indiana University in 1988 with the COL Raymond Shoemaker and Reserve Officers Association Awards for outstanding senior cadet. Since then he has served as tank platoon leader and fire support officer for 1/63 AR, Ft Irwin, CA; tank platoon leader for D Trp 5th CAV, Ft Devens, MA; Aide de Camp, 804th Med BDE, Hanscom AFB, MA; Prevention Team Leader, 85th Medical Detachment ÂCombat Stress Control, Ft Hood, TX; Chief of Social Work and Family Advocacy Services, Dewitt Hospital, Ft. Belvoir, VA; and Advanced Instructor, Ft Sam Houston, TX. MAJ Yarvis interest in the stress of peacekeeping was inspired by his involvement in deployments to Iceland, Haiti and Bosnia, where he witnessed the impact of support and sustainment operations on troops and combat stress control teams. For these efforts he was named deployable social worker of the year in 1997 by the social work consultant to the army surgeon general. rch interests turned to the military responders to disaster. MAJ Yarvis has a strong background in prevention and intervention after such events. Since 1994, he has lead or participated in over 45 civilian and military critical incident stress debriefings. In 1997 the Bell-Coryell County (TX) Chapter of the International Critical Incidence Stress Foundation named him Mental Health Professional of the Year for his work with the tornadoes of Jarrell and MorganÂs Point, Texas and he was nominated for the General Douglas Macarthur leadership award. He has presented at 15 national conferences regarding combat and operational trauma and has numerous publications pertaining to trauma and evidence-based treatments. He was the first social worker in the history of the US Army to graduate from the Aero-medical flight psychology program, Ft Rucker, AL and serve on flight status as a helicopter crewman as a flight social worker. Major Yarvis is a Board Certified Diplomate in social work and psychotherapy and holds the highest clinical designation of licensed clinical social worker. He obtained an MSW from Boston College, and a M.Ed. from Cambridge College and is a graduate of the Armor and Medical Corps Officer Basic Courses, the AMEDD Advanced Course, the Civil Affairs Qualification Course, the Combined Arms Services Staff School and Command and General Staff College. He has the following military decorations, The Bronze Star Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, The Army Commendation Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster,, The Iraq Campaign Medal, the National Defense Medal (Two awards), The Armed Forces Medal, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Two Awards), Global War on Terrorism Medal, The Humanitarian Service Medal, The NATO Medal, The UN in Haiti Medal, The Overseas Service Ribbon, the Reserve Oversees Training Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Field Medical Badge, and the Aviation Badge. He also has the German sports badge and the Danish Contingent Medal Major Yarvis serves proudly with his wife Laura and his two children Jacob and Olivia. Jeff still runs.
