Jennifer's Story
Life
After 13 years in the Somerville School District and four at the University of Delaware, Jen married high school sweetheart, Harry Buerkle. They moved to Tallahassee, FL, in 1978 with two young children, where they both taught in the Leon County School District. Today Jen teaches art in a center for gifted kids and Harry is a project manager for the school district and an adjunct professor at Florida State University. lly gone. Gene is a paramedic/firefighter in Tallahassee and Leah co-owns a florist shop with Jen, "Ivy Street Flowers." Leah and her husband, Matt Colson, are expecting the first Buerkle grandchild in November. Jen's parents retired to Tallahassee in 1985. Her dad, Bernie Hankin (SHS alumnus) passed away at 88 in February, 2003. Her mom lives in an assisted living facility in town. Harry's mom, Edith Buerkle, died in 1993 and his dad, Kurt, still lives in Somerville.
