Jennifer's Story
After High School, I attended BYU and received a degree in English. I then worked as an office manager and technical writer for a small tech firm that created imaging/analysis software for electron microscopes. Later I married a physicist and moved to Iowa where my husband was pursuing grad school.
Upon finishing his first grad degree, my husband and I moved to Tucson, AZ to complete his Doctorate (he invents new kinds of and applications for lasers) and my Masters in Library Science.
Following another tour of "stay-at-home-mom-dom", I returned to school and finished another degree in teaching. I then taught at a private school (Tucson Community School), where I was privileged to teach (and fall in love with) early learners.
In 2008, my husband moved our family to the east coast to further his laser research and development. We now live in the D.C. suburbs and are enjoying all that this area of the country has to offer (my...Expand for more
boys are especially fond of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museums....)
As for my passions, I escape the grind of daily life (my children's schools, and their sporting events, and their piano and violin and karate lessons...) I divide my spare time between swimming, taking long walks with my husband, workouts (hooray!), burying myself in classic literature, and writing children's books. I have some published poetry, and several other "bookish" projects in the works.
My current "community service" focus is on improving the educational system for gifted children (because I happen to be blessed with a couple).
I advocate for parent support groups, better research, and especially for better educational opportunities and resources for the profoundly gifted. I also have a soft spot in my heart for underprivileged children and second language learners and I spend a significant amount of time volunteering in the classroom with them.
