Jennifer's Story
Life
I was born on Labor Day, September 1st, 1975 to Kathleen and Ralph, and I have a sister, Jaclyn, who is two years older than me. I grew up in Detroit and attended St. Ladislaus Grade School in Hamtramck. While at St. Lads, I was a cheerleader, an office assistant, a teacher's helper, a lunchroom aide, and a church lecter.
My parents got divorced the summer before I went into 8th grade and then I graduated in 1989 from St. Lads as one of the top three in my class. From there, I attended Regina High School in Harper Woods, where I was a member of the Foreign Language Club, worked in the attendance office, and was on the honor roll. I graduated in 1993.
From there I left home to attend Siena Heights College, now known as Siena Heights University, in Adrian. While at Siena, I was a member of Gamma Beta Phi, National Honor Society, was on the Dean's list, and worked all four years as an interlibrary loan assistant. I did several internships towards my degrees (Lenawee County Department on Aging, Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence Shelter, and Charlotte Stephenson Residential Home).
From Siena, I received an associates in Social Work, an associates in Psychology, and a bachelors in Human Services: Social Work with related work in Gerontology. I graduated Cum Laude in 1997 with a GP...Expand for more
A of 3.64 and was nominated for Outstanding Student of the Year (1996-97).
I then went on to Wayne State University for my graduate studies. While at Wayne, I did two internships (Henry Ford Continuing Care Center and St. John Macomb Hospital). I received my MSW (Masters of Social Work)in 1999 with a GPA of 3.80. While still working on my masters, I was hired by Henry Ford Continuing Care on a part time basis until I could work full time after graduation. So I have been at Henry Ford ever since.
Currently I live in St. Clair Shores, I have a cat and a dog, and I drive an SUV. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and consider myself to be a homebody. I am now the proud ciocia, aunt in Polish, to my sister's two girls, Laila and Maya.
I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer in March of 2008 and had successful cancer surgery, a complete hysterectomy, in May of 2008. Luckily I did not require chemotherapy or radiation. I have now been cancer free for over a year.
I love listening to music, watching TV and movies, playing on the computer and cross stitching. I am currently single and loving it. I am enjoying my life and wouldn't change a thing!
