Jennifer's Story
Life
After graduating high school, I moved to Portland, Oregon to attend PSU. I married my high school sweetie, Morgan Locklear, on January 13, 1995 and graduated with a B.S. in Business Management in March 1996.
My first job out of school was with Chicago Title Insurance Company where I worked my way up from entry level to the position of Title Examiner. After the birth of our first son, Cameron John, in November 1996, Morgan and I began to think more and more about returning to the Oregon coast to raise our child and be closer to our relatives.
The opportunity arose in August 1998 when I was offered a job at Western Title & Escrow Company in Newport and we took it. In July 2000, my career took an unexpected turn when I began working for the Oregon Coast Aquarium as the Membership Services Manager. It's a wonderful place to work where any number of unexpected things can occur. I have been called away from my desk to be kissed by a sea lion, shake hands with an octopus, help feed a shark and observe a Humbolt squid up close. The unique opportunities here are endless.
For now, we are content to remain on the coast and volunteer time back into various community projects. Since moving back to Newport, I have volunteered with the Children's Advocacy Center, Sam Case Parent Boosters and Atonement Lutheran Church. With a new baby in the house, I have cut back on ...Expand for more
these activities but still remain active with the Newport Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The fight against cancer has become my biggest passion and I have been a part of this event since 1999.
In late 2003, I became pregnant with our second child. Unfortunately, the baby boy died before birth on April 20, 2004. He was named Eric Jacob and will remain in our hearts forever. It was a terrible loss for our family but one we have begun to move beyond. Three months after losing Eric, we were blessed with the news that another baby was on the way. After the longest 9 months of our lives, we were thrilled to welcome our first daughter, Abby Jerah, into the world on April 5, 2005. With Abby's safe arrival, our family is now complete.
Along with our 2 children, I also keep busy as an aunt to 3 nephews and 2 nieces and have become way more domestic than I ever imagined I would be.
Much of our vacation time is spent in the mountains of Idaho where we enjoy boating, rafting, fishing and four-wheeling at a family cabin nestled on the South Fork of the Boise River. Occasionally, we also take some bigger trips. Our favorite excurusion so far has been a 12 day stint in New York City. When the kids are a little older, we hope to begin travelling more internationally (no offense to the Canadian Rockies or Cabo San Lucas, both are great).
