Jennifer's Story

High school...What a strange blend of ongoing drama, guarded dreams, unspoken fears and only momentary glimpses of what any of us would become--after high school. Gosh, I hope I'm not the only one who felt like a floundering puzzle piece. But with raising six children and thriving in a 27-year marriage, I've found my perfect fit. When I stand back and look at the whole picture, how the other pieces of my life have come together,I am convinced of a God who really is intimate, who does orchestrate and equip those who search for Him with all their heart. My life now? I'm helping to raise my 3.5 yr.-old grandson, getting to know my four grandchildren in Seattle via phonecalls and occasional visits, enjoying the husband of my young adulthood, and at this time, writing devotionals for publication. If I could do anything over, it would be to go back to H.S. with the knowledge of people that I have come to know only through experience. I wish I could have brought something lasting and lifechanging to the Anaheim Colonist table during my three years there. I'm sure I'm not alone on that one. Would love to hear from anyone who knew me then. Jennifer I always wanted to be a movie star when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were right. Taking a long (3-4-mile), fast walk. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have coffee, Fox News, and a good hair day to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Yah, I do. William Wilberforce. My inspiration comes from God. Not to sound trite. But when I came to Christ back in 1979, my perspectives and my heart were changed radically. Seeing everything, everyone, each emotion and wonderings, through the eyes of a loving Creator/Father, inspires everything I do, everything I am. Reading books on writing, on U.S. History and Theology. My husband is my obsession. My home--creating a warm environment. I never expected to be so content, so filled and happy. That's not to say I haven't had my share of deaths and losses and a change of dreams. It means that though I made my plans, God bett...Expand for more
er-directed my paths and brought me to a more wonderful place than I ever could have taken myself to. That i'm not as perfect as I deluded myself into believing for so long. I'd love to see Miss Stubbs from Bountiful, Utah, Stoker Elementary School. Why? Because she lovingly sent me off to California as if she'd really miss me in her class. Right where I'm at, living out my days with Duke--my husband--and writing my devotionals and nonfiction books and maybe even some fiction. I wouldn't change anything. Hard to believe? Believe it. It really does happen. My current age is 53. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely wrong. Just working from home to be a successful writer. "Successful," that is, in writing to change lives. Beats me. It was back in Utah, at St. Boniface, first grade. Still wearing Levis, casual blouses and sandals in summer. In cold weather, just add some furry socks and slip-on shoes with a long raincoat or a jacket. I share my home with my husband, Duke; 2 sons, 2 daughters and one grandson, which I find very interesting, at times. Yah. 6 living trophies: Dwight III, Kyle, Andrew, Nathan, Rebekah and Sarah. Nothing! Everything I've done has made me the person I am today. In 10 years, I hope to be enjoying my husband and a vacation in Europe maybe. I'm going to get there by clicking my heels together and saying, "There's no place like Europe. There's no place like Europe." No clue. Didn't make that much of an impression on anyone back then. My first job was at Chris 'n Pitts, where I got paid minimum wage to hostess. What I remember most about it is wanting to work somewhere else. Like Disneyland. And Kurt Bethke's mom, Jean, got me a job there. I loved it!. Halloweens in Anaheim. Racing from one street to the next, and then hauling my half-filled pillowcase home at the end of the night. Neighbors handed out homemade stuff, like popcorn balls and brownies. For the most part, being with my family, since three out of the six are dead now. Growing up in my home was safe and loving and memorable.
