Jennifer's Story

Life Since 1998, I've lived in southern Oregon with my parents, graduating from Eagle Point High School in 2000 and starting college at Southern Oregon University that fall. I graduated June 12th of 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and a minor in Psychology. I'm hoping to either make a career out of this sort of work or be given the opportunity to become a Juvenile Probation Officer, thus utilizing my Criminology degree. I currently work at a local elementary school teaching kindergarteners how to read and helping improve literacy in 4th-6th grade students that need additional reading intervention. I plan on volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children, representing children that are wards of the court and assisting the court in deciding the proper placement for the child. I essentially want to help young people improve their lives and make it through the roughest stages that I'm sure we all remember. The joy of my life is spending time with my loving, amazing husband, Jonathan Brabham (North Medford High School class of 1999). We married August 13th, 2005, after dating for over three years. We live a simple life with our family, cats, and our plants. When I am not spending time with my husband, family, or friends, I enjoy graphic and web design, journaling, writing, sketching, scrapbooking, photography, plants and gardening, cooking, reading, and watching movies. School I was fortunate enough to be a part of Illusions and a leading lady in theater at Shelton High School. I was in "Side by Side by Sondheim", "Into the Woods" (as the Witch), "The Devil's Pawn" (as Morticia Sans-Ame), and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (as Rosalys). After ending my sophomore year, my family moved to Southern Oregon. Eagle Point, specifically. I was accepted into EPHS's jazz choir, A Touch of Jazz, and remained a member until the end of my junior year. I graduated with a 3.9 GP...Expand for more
A, placing me in the top 10% of my class, and I was an Honor Society member. College I started college in the fall of 2000 after graduating high school. I had a rocky freshman and sophomore year, but my junior year managed to pull things together and declared my major - Criminology. Since then, I have been on the Dean's List and the President's List and chose Psychology as my minor, which I completed at the end of fall term 2003. I completed my senior year practicum internship at Medford Police Department, assisting the Patrol division lieutenant and the training coordinator as well as crime analysts doing various clerical, research, and statistic-related tasks. On June 12th (2004) I received my Bachelor of Science degree (in Criminology) and hope to become a Juvenile Probation Officer with Jackson County Community Justice (once I get my experience with case management, that is!). Workplace I've held multiple jobs since starting college, which isn't too surprising considering no one wants to hire college students because we have such erratic schedules that change once every three months! I'm hoping to be given the opportunity to become a Juvenile Probation Officer, thus utilizing my Criminology degree. In the meantime, I work at a local elementary school as an Early Reading Intervention Specialist (which involves teaching kindergarteners how to read and write via use of pictures, letter tiles, and other manipulatives) and a Classroom Literacy Assistant (I work in the Resource Room, helping 4th-6th graders that need additional reading intervention increase their reading fluency and comprehension). Even though I am not in the criminal justice field, I am working in a very rewarding career, and I have seen my work have outstanding, incredible results. When a kindergartener points to one of my hanging file folders and says "Mrs. B? Why does that folder say 'homework packets'?", I know I'm doing something right.
