Jerome's Story
Life
I am retired after 41 eventful years in urban public schools. I taught at East HS in Kansas City for 9 years. Spent a year on the faculty at the University of Minnesota, but decided that I truly enjoyed the energy of secondary schools. I became a school administrator in St. Paul for 5 years.
In 1976, a U.S. District Court judge in Boston appointed me to the position of Head Master at South Boston High School, a school undergoing terrible struggles associated with racial and ethnic desegregation. I remained in Boston for 20 years (13 at South Boston).

My last two years were spent as the Principal at the High School of Commerce in Springfield, Mass.
I recently completed a nine-year journey with the Western Regional Office of the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System. I have been married 3 times (19, 2, and 27+ years), 3 children (my daughter passed in 2011), 6 grandchildren (whom I rarely see). Happily married to Bel Hammond, Class of 1971 of Hyde Park High School in Boston. She is a Certified School Psychologist with the Ware (MA) Public Schools. She works primarily with Middle and High School students.
I have enjoyed my life tremendously. The learning never ends.
