Jerrold's Story

Life My Spouse My first wife, Cathy Schroeder, was a Paly girl. That lasted two weeks short of 5 years. She walked out one night, so our two daughters, Amy (4), Sara (2), and I moved on. My present wife, Michelynn and I met at Pacific Bell in Redwood City. She went to Sequoia High school, but is originally from Saskatchewan Canada. We have been together for 49 years. Together we raised her son from her first marriage and my two daughters from my first marriage. We have two grandchildren, Zach 9 and Haley 6 by our youngest, Sara. Our cat, Momma Kitty, and our son both passed away in 2003. She was 9 and he was 38. They are both dearly missed and fondly remembered by all for the love they gave us as well as their friendship. May they rest in peace. School Product of Inverness Elementary (1950-1954), Inverness, CA.; West Marin Union Elementary, Point Reyes CA (1954 -1955); El Carmelo Elementary, Wilbur Jr. High, and Cubberly Sr. High, Palo Alto, CA(1956-1962); Foothill J.C. 1963-1965, Los Altos, CA; as well as CSM and Canada J.C.’s (off/on). Extensive technical and managerial education courtesy of Pacific Bell and Bell Core (1966-1991). I have no formal degrees, but I do have a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae so far and am continuing with ongoing studies. College No boxes that can be checked to say that you were asked to leave Foothill JC because of your attitude towards learning and that "Oh by the way we let the draft board know that you are no longer eligible for a deferred student status." This in 1966 as Vietnam was warming up. Best thing that could have happened actually, so thank you Foothill College. I went back to work, got in a reserve army unit and raised a family. Thanks Foothill. I love you. Workplace I went to work for Communications Department S.P. RR in 1962, following graduation from Cubberly. I spent the next 3+...Expand for more
years as a lineman in Nevada, Arizona, and Southern California while attending Foothill in between work. Following that, I started with Pacific Bell in 1966 as a frame man in Redwood City. After a year and a half, left and went to HP in Palo Alto out on Page Mill Rd. Worked in Time and Frequency Division doing assembly work, after 9 months I went back to Pacific Bell. Made switchman and after 5 years became a 1st line supervisor. I was a Central Office supervisor for 22 techs maintaining 8 central offices in San Mateo County until retiring (great early out offer) in December 1991. I also supervised an 8 man power crew for 22 phone offices in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties; as well as being responsible for safety and environmental issues for all 22 offices. I went to work for Peninsula Library Systems (San Mateo County) as a computer operator just prior to leaving Pacific Bell. Out of 3 originally on the job I am the only one left. Nine and a half years ago I was hired by the San Mateo County Community College District as a System Support Technician and now I am the only technician still working here also. I am currently working M-F 7-4:30 pm for the library and the district. I will retire out by my choice, March 31st, 2006 and on the 6th of April, 2006 will turn 62. Military Joined 284th Combat Engineering Company in Mt. View to avoid being drafted after losing student deferment due to Foothill J.C. kicking me out in 1966. Unit disbanded after 3 years, and we were transferred to 91st Division in San Jose where I stayed until discharged in 1972. I took my basic training at Ft. Ord, CA. with C-1-3 "Pride of the Infantry" training unit. My AIT was done at Camp Roberts, Paso Robles, CA. where I was assigned to a civilian in the Post Engineer’s Group. He was the Game Warden for the base so I learned where all the good fishing spots were.
