Jerry's Story
Life
I was born in Woodbury, TN on December 21, 1980. I have two half-brothers (one I've never seen) and two sisters. When I was about four years old my family moved to Manchester, TN. In 1986 I started Kindergarten at North Coffee Elementary School. In 1994 I started 7th grade at Coffee County Middle School. Then in 1996 I started 9th grade at Coffee County Central High School. Then due to an illness in October of 1998 I dropped out of school. Took the occasional job every now and then. Then on January 8, 2001 I started going to Motlow State Community College. It was there that I met my recruiter and on March 20, 2001 I signed the first set of papers that would eventually lead me into the Navy 10 days later. I joined my first boat, the USS JACKSONVILLE SSN 699, on January 11, 2002 and have seen many diferent things that I would have never seen had I not have joined. I became qualified in submarines on January 29, 2003. I've been to Peurto Rico, Port Canaveral, FL, Jacksonville, FL, Anapolis, MD, and have traveled to almost every state east of the Mississippi. I was stationed in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard near Kittery, ME when I got out of the Navy on March 30, 2006. Worked a few jobs over the years, but now I'm a truck driver for Titan Transfer. I've been there since February 5, 2018.
School
Well ya'll know how I was in school. Ugly guy...Expand for more
in glasses always messing up somewhere. Couldn't really sing even though a few people said I could but I knew they were just being nice. My favorite subject in school was Honors Choir. Like I said before, I can't sing and I don't know how I got in here but there you go. Being in the Navy I'm not home but once (maybe twice) a year. I think about things I should or shouldn't have done. But all in all I've lived a good life and I can thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for that.
Military
I joined the Navy on March 30, 2001. I was in bootcamp from that day 'til June 20, 2001. Then I went to Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT 'til August 3, 2001. Then I went to various schools then joined my first boat (USS JACKSONVILLE SSN 699) on January 11, 2002. While onboard I have made many underways and seen a few ports. I earned my submarine warfare pin on January 29, 2003. I took the E-4 exam that March and advanced off of the test making me a Machinist's Mate 3rd Class. I have since qualified several watches since and learned many good skills that I probably wouldn't have learned had I not have joined. It's a good experience for some people, but it's not for everyone. I messed up in June and got busted down to E-3 again. My boat is now stationed in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard near Kittery, Maine.
I get out of the Navy on March 29, 2006.
