Jerry's Story
Life
Early in my 11th year of high school I went into the Navy, served time on USS Salamonie and USS Neptune. Spent my last year in Vietnam stationed at Camp Tien Sha near the DMZ, DaNang. I was there during the Tet Offensive Jan. 1968. Was glad to get out Nov. 1968. I am married (29 years) and have three sons, Chad, Seth and Adam. I was in law enforcement for 26 years. During which time I was shot in theline of duty.I retired in late 2000.YEH!!! I own a 5 acre farm on the McKenzie River where I spoil my two grand children, Ean and Mason. I also enjoy going to street rod functions in one of my 8 street rods,a 1939 Ford coupe, 1950 Chevy sedan, 1964 Chev Impala, 1968 Chevy hardtop 62 chevy, 57 chevy and a 1927 T touring. turn the clock back for one day to the high school days. :)
Had fun in school but didn't study as I should have and ended up dropping out during the 11th grade and joined the Navy. Ended up in Vietnam on shore duty. Really missed out on that senior year fun stuff. Although I left I feel I made the right decision at the time. I obtained my GED in the navy. Went to college got a degree. Retired at age 53 and now really enjoy life with my family. Roseburg High school was definately FUN !!
Military
Joined in 1965, went aboard USS Salamonie AO 26 (Tanker), then transfered to USS Neptune ARC 2 Cable repair (spy ship)Then 12 months (from Nov. 67 to Nov 68 in Nam (Camp Tien Sha) Dodged bullets during TET Offensive. Then discharge, almost stayed in. Had a great friend over in Nam, Ron Henry but lost track of the crazy Texan. I recently located him after 39 yrs. Had a great reunion.
