Jerry's Story
Life
I am still here in the Yuba/Sutter area, and having just built a new house it looks as though I will be staying around for some time.
I am married with 3 children, 2 girls and a boy and couldn't be happier! I started my career with the County of Yuba in the engineering field and have since moved into Information Services where I am the County Geographic Information Systems Coordinator which keeps me quite busy.
When not busy with work we like to pack up the RV and head to the outdoors or take the family out for an afternoon of riding quads. There's nothing more enjoyable than exploring new places with the family and experiencing the awesome beauty that God has created for all of us to enjoy.
Keep in touch everyone, don't hesitate to email!
God Bless!!
Jerry
Workplace
Well, right out of highschool I was headed into the Airforce on a delayed entry when I seriously injured my back while working as a carpenter in Sacramento. After surgery and rehab it was evident that I needed to rethink my career choices. I got into Computer Aided Drafting and engineering and landed a job with the Public Works Department in Yuba County where I did civil engineering, project management and inspections. t involved with Geographic Information Systems (intelligent Mapping Systems) and computer programming. I left Public Works to go to work for the County Information Technology Department as an Analyst I and programmer for the next 3 years.
After getting bored with working in local government I decided to look into the private sector for a more challenging job. I was hired by Sigma Networks as a GIS Administrator in charge of fiber optic network mapping and network equipment inventory systems.
This was a half billion dollar start up company with fiber infrastructures being built in D.C., New York, and Dallas (fast paced and fun job!)
Well the stock market took a turn for the worse for telecommunications and after a year with this company they started to shut down their operations due to shortfalls in clients and a bleak outlook for growth. Needless to say I was looking for work elsewhere. I was offered my old job back at Yuba County with a promotion so I took it. I have since been promoted again within the last year. I am now an Analyst III (GIS Coordinator and Web Developer) Couldn't be happier!
Update as of 2008 - I am now an Information Systems Supervisor with my focus on applications (development and database administration)
