Beautiful people do not just happen.” Favorite Bible verses: Acts 20:24 -" However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me — the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace." Ephesians 4:32 – "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you." The Road Less Traveled It Is the road that begins with a plea and a recognition that your life needs to be changed by God. Being guided by God, the Holy Spirit, you come to the conviction that you are ready to confess to God all of your sinful past and seek forgiveness and restoration to a new life in Jesus, the promised Savior and Deliver from sin. Your confession of sin can be made to God alone, or with a group of fellow Christians. The place doesn't matter so long as you are sincere in your need to have a personal relationship with God. All of this sounds too ridiculous to you. It did to me at one time too. It's irrational. It's counter-intuitive. It goes against everything we stood for as children of the 60's and 70's - alcohol, drugs, sex, and rock-and-roll. Compared to our old lifestyles this road stuff sounds pretty boring. You want to deny this road even exists. Yet, in your heart of hearts, you know something is missing in your life. You've been seeking it all along, but nothing in life really satisfies you. You haven't found the truth you've been seeking. You thought you had everything, materially that is. By the world's standards you're successful. You've got it all. Except, just maybe, you're not happy. You may not even be able to form happy, lasting friendships or relationships, because you're projecting on everyone else the garbage inside you. You're not alone. I've been there, too. So, you know everything about life and can't understand why you're even reading this. What you don't know and can't possibly know is that God has been seeking YOU for a long time. He wants to offer you the opportunity to know only Him as the G...Expand for more
od in your life, not all the other stuff. After all, He is the God above all other gods. Nothing made of this world can compare to the riches of a clean conscience, the love and grace He wants to reveal to you, namely saving faith in Jesus, His Son, to completely restore you to a new life in Him. Here's His transcendent plan for your new life: John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world [that includes you and me] that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." 1 Timothy 2:3-7 - "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. And for this purpose I [Paul} was appointed a herald and an apostle . . . and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles." So, you've been questioning life and getting no answers, asking yourself 'is this all there is to life,' and deep inside, your conscience has been bugging you to seek a higher meaning to life. Well, you're not alone. Certain of us have been there, too. In seeking that meaning, seek the one true God. For it is written in His Word that we are all guilty of sin and in need of His forgiveness: You cannot begin to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior unless you acknowledge that you are truly a sinner in need of a Savior. Through all of the things in your past, know that God has a plan and a purpose for you in this life and the next one, too. Read on: Romans 3:23 - ". . . for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, . . " Romans 3:10- 12 - "As it is written, 'There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away; they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.'” Acts 3:19-20 - "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus." John 6:44 - "And Jesus said, 'No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.'" God has a remedy for people like us, and it doesn't include gossip and hypocrisy. Read on . . . Romans 8:23-25 - "We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently." John 3:17-21 -"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world [that means everybody, including you and me] through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God." The Assurance of Salvation as a Believer Romans 10:9 - "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." John 5:24-27 - "Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man." 1 John 5:13 - "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him." John 20:30-31 - "Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." My last advice about your eternal life. Go now, and be guided by the Holy Spirit, to find a Bible-believing fellowship of genuine Christians and be baptized. Not in an entertainment church, but one which will teach you, grow you, and fill you with God's grace in His Word, teaching you in all things, and offering His forgiveness in community as well as a place to serve God with a joyful heart. Go in peace, telling others about the saving grace you've found, and that they can find if they seek it, in the good news of Christ our Savior. Pastor Jerry Glen Ellyn, IL December 26, 2019
