Jerry's Story
Life
You can catch up with my life on my web site at jeremymcguire.com which is rather constantly under construction since I can never make up my mind how it should look. Sheesh! Artists!
I am celebrating the publication of my childrens book, "O'Shaughnessey: A Boy and His Leprechaun," which is available on Amazon.com, which I both wrote and illustrated using the pen and ink techniques of the 19th Century.
I am currently working on the second book which will come out soon.
I am an artist and writer, formerly an actor and director, now working in a law firm to pay the mortgage and buy me paint and paper. My dear wife Kat is an artist and a police officer, mostly an artist.I am living with my wife, Kat and her two cats, in a Queen Anne Home in Chicago (circa 1883) and my daughter Patty, a veteran of the Air National Guard and graduate of Illinois State University, now has gotten a Masters Degree in Social Work at the University if Chicago. The other daughter is married and a mama, with two daughters, Cori Lynne and Ellie Marie. She also has a Masters in Education and teaches third grade in Bemidji, Minnesota. My two sons, Dave and Dan, studied in the Film Department of Columbia in Chicago. (Theatre is a genetic condition.)
Dan is working as an assistant editor and Dave is free-lancing as a screenwriter.
School
I moved to New Jersey from Shreveport, Louisiana in 1961 and entered ...Expand for more
Lenape Regional High School in Burlington County as a Freshman. My chief interests were art and girls, not necessarily in that order, although, I must confess, most of my successes were in the former. I was, to be frank, a geek, more Richie Cunningham than Fonzie. I got better. By the time I was a senior, I had managed to get the lead in the school play as "The Boyfriend" and started getting a lot more attention. My girlfriend, Doreen Bakely, was the love of my life until I moved to Illinois and that was that.
Military
After three years of college, the Army caught up with me in 1968. I took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and was assigned to Fort Bragg where I promptly took up with the gang at the Ft. Bragg Playhouse. If my children ask what I did in the VN War, I can say I was in the Venetian campaign with Othello, and laid waste to the world in "Skin of our Teeth." I also fomented rebellion as Mr. John Adams in "1776."
A brush with the overseas replacement station saw me almost go to VietNam, but, as luck would have it, I never did go.
I got out in February of 1971.
Then, I got married.
College:
After my first abortive attempt to get a degree, spending three years as a poor scholar at Bradley University, I went back to Illinois State after the Army and eventually pulled off a Master of Fine Arts.
