Jerry's Story
Attended Union College after graduation. Stayed out to work 3 years so took 7 to get through, graduated 1963. I canvassed summers in Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota. Went to Loma Linda 4 years, finished in 1968 and interned there. Married my sophomore year. Orthopedics training at UTMB in Galveston, Tx, then a fellowship at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, Ca, 1973 and the US Navy at Long Beach. While there started stroke rehab service at LLU Hospital and went full time at LLU after the navy, spending some time with the residents at Riverside General. I gradually migrated to private practice near by in San Bernardino. Divorced in 1974, remarried in 1984. Then in 1989 moved to McCall, Idaho where I practiced. We enjoyed 4 wheeling and snowmobiling and camping. It was a small place so I had to fly to clinics in Weiser and Grangeville to keep busy. When a patient came in to the ER I would have to arrange for an anesthitest to come from Boise (110 miles) and get some surgical equipment sent up on the bus, then I would admit the patient. e Julie and I being around nature and having elk in our yard a lot. I retired from surgery in 2003 and we built a place on the Salmon River south of White Bird to get out of the snow. It wasn't quite far enough out of the snow so we now spend winters in Maricopa, AZ. I have one son, Mark, who's an architect, recently finished work on redesign of terminal 2 at San Francisco Airport and now on a project at LAX. He has three girls. Julie's son, Tony lives in Tracy, CA and works at the Cyclotron at Berkley and has 2 boys. Even though we live in a sparsely populated area we enjoy doing a lot of activities with friends. Every Sunday we all get together for Breakfast at the Silver Dollar Saloon in White Bird. (They have a dining room in the back.) We have a large garden. We go on RV Camping/4 wheeling trips with our neighbors. I still do medical-legal evaluations and expert witness work. Computer programming and nature photography are other interests.
