JERRY's Story
I retired in march, 2009 after working 28 years as a classified State of Louisiana employee in Accounting.
I worked 26 years at LSU Medical Center School of Medicine in Shreveport and 2 years at another state
agency - Ruston State School - near Ruston, Louisiana.
I also worked 2 years for a private(not a state job) manufacturing company doing accounting work.
Prior to the accounting jobs I did various jobs in the 1970's:
I sold milk and other dairy products for 2 years.
I worked in a wholesale pharmaceutical warehouse for 3 years.
I worked for a manufacturing plant for 2 years-one year doing assembly line work and
1 year working in shipping and receiving.
I sold wholesale seafood for 6 months.
I sold welding supplies and did part time retail inventory work for 6 months.
I sold retail building materials for 6 months.
I worked in an industrial gas plant for 6 months.
I worked as a security guard for 6 months.
Prior to the permanent jobs above I worked on 4 summer jobs during the summer and went to school
during the rest of the year.
My first summer job was in 1966 just prior to my senior year at Fair Park High School - a place I will
always fondly remember until the day I die.
I worked during the summer of 1966 as a lifeguard at a swimming pool near Oak Terrace Jr. High(the
school has a different name now). The swimming pool was located near the current cable company
office(Comcast).
The next 2 summers(1967 and 1968) I worked o...Expand for more
n manual labor jobs. It was a lot harder work than being
a lifeguard, and I didn't meet any pretty girls like I did at the swimming pool and at high school, but it paid
twice as much money as the lifeguard job and had some overtime.
In 1969 I worked as a summer substitute postal carrier for the U. S. Post Office in Saint Martinville, Louisiana
which is about 18 miles southeast of Lafayette, Louisiana. The Post Office was located near the famed
Evangeline Oak Tree - where Evangeline met her long separated loved one.
I was married 2 times . My first wife was Debra Christine Harley(her maiden name) and the marriage lasted 10 years(1970-1980. We had one child, a son.
Keith Lynn Simpson-born in 1974.
