Jerry's Story
After graduating from the University of Alabama and a student exchange job in Holland, I returned to Montgomery and began work with a mail order and book publishing business, Fuller & Dees Marketing Group. The company was owned by Morris Dees, an entrepreneur I had met while in college.
When Dees sold the company to Times Mirror, I moved to Washington and started another publishing venture, College and University Press and began compiling freshman face books and college alumni directories using direct mail and telephone marketing....if only I had thought of doing this on the Internet.
After publishing more than 1000 titles, I sold this company and moved into my current direct mail fundraising business working with causes such as alternative medicine, fighting mental illness, building orphanages for aband...Expand for more
oned children and filling wishes for terminally ill.
We also published the Outstanding Young Americans series, which annually recognized some 20,000 young people for civic leadership and contributions to their field. This was the only way I ever got any recognition since I was able to slip in my own bio.
Having grown up the son for a forest ranger, recently I decided to restore an abandoned look out tower in Butler County and am developing a longleaf pine forest in an effort to bring back this native tree and provide a protected habitat for wildlife. Check out the project at longleafcamp.com.
I live in McLean Virginia with my wife Judy and have 2 boys - Hunter (19) a Sophomore at Syracuse University and Teddy (23) who is a Senior at New York University.
