Jessie's Story
I was married to John Droese (Class of 68) for 13 years and lived in Hustisford and Neosho during that time, and had one son, Kurt, who now lives in Milwaukee and is a journeyman steamfitter.
After my divorce, I worked for my brother, Calvin Akin, in Brookfield as his personal assistant for his investment real estate business. I met and married John Vettel, retired Air Force Lt.Col., and moved to the Lake Tahoe area in NV. We moved to Carson City in 1998, after having our son, Ryan, who is now 12 years old. John is a realtor, and I am his parttime assistant. Because Ryan is very talented in the fine arts, we are busy providing violin lessons and MANY dance lessons, since he was 3. Ryan and John have been very active in the theater here, being in such musicals as Beauty & The Beast, Brigadoon, Annie Get Your Gun, Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Fiddler On The Roof. These are very professional productions, and RYan has received excellent training. He is a national tap champion, and has been in ballet, jazz, hiphop, and contemporary competition dance routines. He received straight A's at the catholic school he attends here. I am strictly "Ryan's Mom" after 3:00 during the schoolyear, shuttling him from violin lessons to the dance studio to dinner to homework, to rehearsals.

Ryan tried out for the Broadway musical, Billy Elliot, which received 10 Tony Awards last month. Two years ago, he was in the top 20 boys out of 1600 boys that tried out throughout the country. The 3 boys that were chosen were 2 and 3 years older than he was. He tried out once more on April 1 in San Francisco, and he is waiting to here if he is a finalist- we were told we would be notified in September. If he would be chosen, it would be a great honor, and a wonderful but difficult time for our family, since he and I would move to NYC, and John would commute back and forth. I guess one can do anything for a year or so. And working with Elton John would be an experience!
I love living in Carson City because I feel like I am in Paradise. We are at 5000 ft. altitude, a rather dry climate, and we are nestled right under the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I look out my living room window and see the mountains soaring above me! Carson City is a town of around 50,000 people, 30 miles south of Reno, which is over 350,000, and 30 minutes from the magnificent Lake Tahoe. We have a mild winter, rather hot and dry summers, and are 2-1/2 hours east of Sacramento, and 3-1/2 hours east of San Francisco. The skiing is fantastic, hiking, fishing, water sports, boating, biking, almost anything is available.
My life is good.
