Jill's Story
After graduatiing from Grant it was off to college at Winona State University in Minnesota. In 1987, I graduated from WSU with a BA in Communications and like most new college graduates, I was broke and had no job so out of neccessity, I moved back home to Lake Villa with my mom.
After working for a couple years, I met Rich and we were married in September 1990. Rich was a police officer for Fox Lake at the time, so his job kept us in our hometown. I often wonder what it would have been like if we were able to pack things up and move to a new town or state. However, there is something to be said about raising your family in your own small hometown. Sometimes it does take a village...
In 1997, I was lucky enough to be able to leave the corporate rat race behind and stay home with our kids. Kristin, my bonus daughter is 25, Brian our son is 14 and Lauren our daughter is 10. Ironically, our son Brian will be a freshman at Grant this fall and is working hard to earn a starting position on the football team. (Go Dogs!) It's both exciting and somewhat strange to have your child walking the same halls that you once did. Boy, if those halls could talk...scary! Rich and I now live in Ingleside and life is busy. We spend most of our time at one of the kids sporting events/activities, or driving kids around. Rich retired from the police department a couple years ago and is now working for Superior Paving. I decided in 2005 that it was time for me to go back to work and I was blessed to find a job at Stanton School in Fox Lake (aka Shady Lane) I can honestly say, I really love what I do. My official title is Building Secretary, but my job is so much more than that. The people and kids I work with are great! I feel bleesed to be able to touch the life of a kid who might just need someone to listen to them. They make me smile everyday. Looking back, I wish I would have known what I really wanted to do or what I would have been good at while I was in college...I should have been a teacher.
Every once in awhile I see something or hear a song that brings me right back to the good old days of GCHS and I wish that for just alittle while I could turn back time. How fun it would be to hang out with the "old gang" again! ...we had some really great times...
I look forward to seeing everyone at our 25th reunion this October.
Life is good!
