Jill's Story
Hey all,
After high school in NY, I went to Brandeis University. After graduation in 87, I needed an academic break, so worked for a few years at a then-tiny, unknown start up venture called Staples :) Got married, had 2 kids, bought a house in a nice Boston suburb. Quit Staples b/c altho the cutthroat corporate skills that I was honing there led me to success and promotions, it felt cold and empty to me. Worked in non-profit for a year before returning to school -- Masters in Literature, Boston University -- for college teaching career. Graduated in 92, published a review in Oxford lit journal, and began teaching part time until my lovely girls were school age, then took full time teaching post at Middlesex Community College. e -- love my students, love my colleagues, enormous room for professional growth. Personal life took a beating during many of those years though. Suburban life and marriage to my husband slowly turned into a life of quiet desperation, before becoming completely unbearable. I went through a few years of hell but got my freedom and a new chance at life and happiness. Took the next 4 years to provide stability and a new home for my kids, deepen friendships, be alone for the first time in 20 years, refocus my bearings, and enjoy a couple of very meaningful personal relationships. Right now I am with someone very special who I love and who my kids love too. It's been a long, interesting road to learn how self-sufficient, strong, funny and capable I am. Feeling very blessed and fortunate.
