Jill's Story
Life
I wandered across America, much of it on Greyhoud buses. I was short enough to sleep comfortably on two seats. I lived in Chicago where I graduated from high school, and then followed the great exodus to California and lived in the Bay Area for a while only to return to NYC and lived in the Bronx.
My dream from the time I was ten years old was to own some land, and as prices in the Northeast were/are "out of sight" I moved South. I lved in Charlotte, North Carolina for many years. I went to school there and became a nurse in part because I wanted to be of help to others, and also hope to someday be able to do some overseas volunteer nursing.
Again due to the price of acerage I moved farther South. Five years back just shy of my 50th birthday I bought seven acres of lush, beautiful and private land which I call "Belle Flower Farm" in part because there are a large variety of native plants on the property and many of them have tiny bell shaped flowers in the Spring which range from white, to pale pink, to pink, to magenta. They are very fragrent and the aroma fills the air with a sweet odor much of the Spring. I am seventy miles from Charleston, South Carolina and seventy miles from Savannah, Georgia which are in my mind the two most beautiful cities in the country. This is real country...the road I live on has many farms with horses, cattle, pigs and goats. About every time I think I've seen all the wildlife there is to see, something else shows up. Turkeys, foxes, owls, wild boar! I just love it. They say the bears are migrating into this area!!!
I never tire of wandering the trails that I bulit through my woods. It is very peaceful. I have two cats, two kittens, two dogs, two rabbits and my "significant other" Bill . The property adjoins a pine tree farm of about 4000 acres. The funny thing is that most of the time when I go for walks (which is just about every day) my dogs and cats walk with ...Expand for more
me. We are quite a sight!
Bill says our house looks like "a composers hideout". I do have a baby grand piano that I play from time to time, mostly classical plus my own sort of new age stuff. We often talk about how fortunate we are to live in such a peaceful place compared to most people in this world. We are truely blessed, and we know it.
After sixteen years in nusring I have fallen in love with ER nursing. I became a nurse to spread smiles. I do that quite often and try to care for my patient the way I myself would like to be cared for. It has taught me a lot. I speak Spanish (studied it over many years, traveled in Mexico as I always wanted to become multilingual) and I use it just about every day at work. It gives me a deep sense of sartisfaction and accomplishment to do the work I do.
I also know a bit of sign language having learned it from a deaf Korean student that I tutored while in nursing school. Currently I am relearning French...discovered while traveling in Belgium (Bill was working in Antwerp) that I can pretty much read French! Isn't it amazing how much the brain can retain from grade school? I want to travel in France and go to Holland to see the Anna Frank house and the VanGogh paintings, again (saw them in NYC at age eleven). The French will come in handy plus I can hopefully do mission trips to Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
I have no children, and that works just fine for me. I love kids, but like my time to be my own. I guess to sum up, my desire was to become a renissance woman. I am a student of life and never tire of learning new things. I still laugh a lot and belive that laughter is indeed the best medicine. I try to treat everyone I come into contact with with kindness and respect. In this way I am a bit "old fashioned" but it works for me.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this. Please let me know you stopped by.
Be Well. Be Happy.
