jim's Story

Jim attended Boone County High School graduating in 1972. After high school he attended Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Industrial Education graduating in 1977. Jim married his college sweetheart, Janet Varney, in June of 1977. Jim started his teaching career at Twenhofel Junior High School in Campbell County. Jim left teaching temporarily to work in the coal mines in Eastern Kentucky making three times more money than teaching. He returned to teaching after three years and taught at Phelps Vocational school teaching mining c...Expand for more
lasses. He then transferred to Garth Vocational school where he taught carpentry. He then transferred to Campbell County Vocational School teaching carpentry. Returning back to Floyd County he taught at Betsy Layne High School. Upon moving back to Northern Kentucky Jim began teaching at Williamstown High School in Williamstown, KY. After suffering a stroke he finished his teaching career at Grant County High School where he retired in 2005. Jim and Janet have four children and four grandchildren and currently live in Dry Ridge, Ky.
