Jim Porter's Story
On my last post I mentioned "ambitious retirement adventure" so I thought I would follow-up on that.
I left Huntsville on March 27, '24 bike packing to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to see the eclipse on April 8th.
From there I got a rental car and headed for Jasper Georgia, i.e. Amicalola Falls to start the AT. Starting late and moving slow I did a fast forward to finish out in the 100 Miles Wilderness and Katahdin from Monson. Eight hundred miles total.
I picked up my new bike and some equipment in Millinocket and headed for Calais, ME and St. Stephen, Canada, to start the East Coast Greenway (ECG).
A few days ago I passed through New York City visiting Central Park and riding my bike down 5th Ave. to Trump Tower. I did a GoPro for that and thought you might get a kick watching it so I've posted it on my website JimPorterCasey doc com and Instagram at jim_porter_casey or just Google Jim Porter Casey ...
I'm over 1000 miles on the ECG but with detours, loops and site seeing my odometer says over 1800 miles since Millinocket. All totaled around 3000 hiking and biking since March.
(I finished the East Coast Greenway on Dec. 21 in Key West and then biked ...Expand for more
back home to Huntsville - 4700 miles biking, 800 miles hiking. I had a big time.)
Happy trails,
JIM

A STATEMENT
FOR THE SR BUTLER CLASS OF 1980 etc.
THANKS!
Being your Class President was one of the biggest honors of my life and I just want to say thank you for that privilege. One perk I particularly enjoyed was being the first to graduate!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ME!
And guess what, my birthday was just a few weeks ago and I am officially retired! It so happens that my birthday was late in the year and I'm one of the oldest in the class and so probably the first, or at least among the first to be officially retired.
Well, you know the good book says something about the first will be last... and so while I wish you all - or at least most of you - the best in your senior years I sincerely hope that I can fulfill the almighty's promise to be the last to... you know... be liberated from this life.
I am planning some ambitious retirement adventures for coming months and years and hope you can join me on my website tocc.tv and across social media as I begin this chapter in my life.
Sincerely,
Jim Porter Casey
