Jim's Story

Life Hello and Greetings! I am Jimmie (Jim) Morgan, here is a little bit about myself. I was born in New Boston, TX, sixty-two years ago. From ages one to nine years, Texarkana, AR was my early childhood home. Like many other families, we moved from a small town to the Dallas-Ft Worth area. Like many of my contemporaries as a teenager, it was sports, cars, drive-in movies, and girls. My first car was a 1954 Chevy Bellaire two-door hardtop, red and white. I would love to find a one like it again. Those where the good old days. Shortly after high school, I meet my wife LaDonna. We have been married almost 43 years, and have two daughters Megan, 26 and Micah, 34 years old and one grand daughter 12 years old. Everyone still calls the DFW area home. Education has been sort of a hobby of mine, "strange hobby.” Like many of you, while working and traveling full-time, I was able to receive a BS in Management from LeTourneau University, Dallas TX, in 1991. While still smitten by the education bug, I completed a MA in Professional Development (Marketing major), in 1993 from Amberton University, Dallas, TX. Still not cured I just keep taking graduate courses at Amberton. Before realizing it, I had completed the requirements for a MS in Business and Human Relations, which was awarded in 1998. For some reason my thought was, “if one graduate degree was good, then two would be better". The degrees were part of my plan to teach someday at the college or university level. Having been a part-time instructor from 1999-2002 at Tarrant County College in Ft Worth, I taught courses in Business, Marketing, Selling, Advertising, and Supervision, that part of the plan has been realized. Now, I also teach undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Phoenix-Dallas Campus, UOP Online, Park University Online, Northwestern State University Online, and the Keller Graduate School of Management. After high school, our Uncle Sam asked me to become a member of the US Army. The Ar...Expand for more
my decided I would be a good medic and sent me overseas to Korea. My assignment was to a MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit in the emergency room. After finishing my military obligation, I started as a Production Supervisor with an electronics firm. While working full-time, I attended TCJC in Ft Worth in the evenings and received an AS Mid-Management, in 1975. From that beginning, some of my job titles and responsibilities have been Plant Manager in Mexico, VP Operations, the President, and CEO of several mid-sized companies that in most cases had foreign owners French, Italian, and Swedish. From July 1995-December, 1996, I lived in Australia merging several of my company's subsidiaries. After my Australia assignment, I found myself without a job. This was the first time, I found myself seeking employment. Good fortune smiled on me, I found a new position as VP International Operations starting June 1997 to Feb 1998. The problem was the company was located in Indiana and looking for a new owner. It was a commute from DFW to Indy every week. This was an interesting experience; the company was seventy years old and had gone through three LBOs (leveraged buy out). February 1998 the company's banks took control of the company and several of the executives those of us who had not relocated were paid off. Well, I was unemployed again! This time I/we decided to buy a business. This is quite common for mid-aged executives. The problem was "what kind of business.” My wife had been teaching at a Christian school, and she had enjoyed it very much. An Internet search led me to a business broker who was representing a private school. Well the prospect looked good. We thought! The school was in the fastest growing area of Dallas-Ft Worth on five acres and 30,000 sq.ft. of buildings with growing enrollment. We purchased the school July 1998. Our goal was my wife and I would work together as partners. She would run the school; I would take care of All the best, Jim
