Jim's Story
The below is outdated, but since writing it in 2004(?), I've completed an MBA at Wharton/U Penn, bought a house with my wife in the 'burbs of Philadelphia and started a new job in the life sciences team as a Kauffman Fellow for Safeguard (early stage investment firm). - Feb, 2008

Where to begin? It's only been about...what, eleven years now since high school? In September of '93, I was off to Virginia Tech (with almost a dozen other North alum) to study biochemistry. Internships in San Diego helped me discover the biotech/startup scene in CA, and after graduating I accepted a research position with SD-based Biosite Diagnostics. In late '98 I joined Chemdex, an internet startup in 'the valley' (or Palo Alto, CA to those back east), first in sales, then marketing, and then business development. It was a wild ride, but like most internet companies it closed down in early 2001, leaving me with severance and a lot of free time.

the beaches of Australia & New Zealand, and decided to continue the journeys. I ran with the bulls in Pamplona, attended surf school in France, enjoyed drinks at the IceBar in Sweden, safari-ed in Africa, guzzled the original Red Bull in Thailand, and dived with sharks in the great barrier reef in Australia.
Upon returning, I moved to the RTP area to be near my girlfriend and now work in business development with BD Technologies. Business School is on the horizon, as are frequent trips to both NJ and CA for business.

Along the way, I've spoken or met up with Kord Jablonski, Dan Jordan, Scott Shrum, Monica Davis, Gurjeet Nayar, Rachelle Kravis, Chris Penn, Dave Balaban, Kent Smack, Denise Shembari, Bill K. and a few others. All are doing very well.
