Jim's Story
Life
Jeez, where do I start? Graduated in '75 from Hazelwood West, went to Truman (NMSU)twice! BSE in '79, Master's in '90. In between, 4 summers at SEMO with graduate work. Student taught at Hazelwood Central, taught 6 years at North County High School in Bonne Terre, MO and coached tennis, and did the science and chess clubs. I moved to Valley Park in '85 and I was the science department chair and chess coach. I also coached volleyball for 2 years (the homeless Hawks!) survived 2 floods, moved 18? times (seems like it anyway), and finally bought a house in Kirkwood. In 2003, I moved over to Parkway South and enjoyed that a lot. In 2005, student population drops forced 8 of us out of Parkway South and I transferred to Parkway North. In 2007, I moved (probably for the last time) to Northwest High School in House Springs. In 2010 I RETIRED! I still teach Observational Astronomy lab at the Meramec campus (come learn how to use a telescope!) on Monday and Tuesday nights
We finished recording an environmental children's CD called Save the Future for the World Bird Sanctuary. It ...Expand for more
was released July 2, 2007!! The second CD was released in the spring, 2010. Be sure to come by to see our shows every Thursday in August at the World Bird Sanctuary and the open house on the third weekend in October. I have been a volunteer at the World Bird Sanctuary since 1986. I am also heavily involved in astronomy through the St Louis Astronomical Society. I am currently president and you can find me at the meetings or most public star parties! Come by the Science Center on first Fridays and take a look through the scope! I also play blues harmonica wherever I can, so if you find a blues jam around town, there is a chance I might make it there. I've started doing more photography and have set up both a photographic studio and a recording studio at my house! Want to record a CD? I'm still involved in local chess tournaments as well.
I have made some wonderful friends over the years while teaching and I sure am looking forward to hearing from all of you! Please drop me a line and let me know how things are going with you, I'd love to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Jim Small
