James's Story
Well, We have made the transition to full time RVers, picked up the new digs in Ohio and made our way to Henniker, New Hampshire, just outside of Concord, had some serious weather since arriving, a lot of rain and hot temps, and very high humidity, but now it's cleared up, still hot and humid, but getting out and seeing the sights. Took a drive to the "Seacoast" with our friends and spent the day in Hampton Beach, North Hampton Beach, then drive into Maine for a late lunch, lobster what else. We drove back down the coast and into Mass. then back to the RV and some campfire time. We're all going to be here through August, then off to Fort Boonesborough, Kentucky for two months.
After two months in New Hampshire and doing some sight seeing and motorcycle riding we left for Kentucky, stopped of at Gettysburg on the way and spent most of the day touring the battlefield and sights. Arrived in Richmond, Kentucky at Fort Boonesborough and the campground where we are hosting, part of the deal is to set up 150,000 lights and decorations for Halloween, it's a pretty big deal here and then afterward, take it all down the day after.
It was a lot of work but a little on the fun side too, at least I kind-a enjoyed it, but still harder work then this group of "Old retired folk" were looking for; I guess we did okay for them as the Park Manager invited us all to stay on though December while manage the See's Candy kiosk at a loc...Expand for more
al mall for the Christmas season. After that, on to our next assignment with the U.S. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife in Texas for about four months.
2019; Visiting family in the Treasure Valley part of Idaho just West of Boise. Decided to stay and look for a house. My son-in-law told me that the County was looking for Deputies, and after attempt to resist it, I took the job.
2020; Have settled down again, Sold the 40’ 5th wheel trailer and bought a place in Middleton ID., I’m pretty much done with the full-time RVing thing, the next trailer can’t be so comfortable that we can live in it for more than two or three weeks.
2021; Rough couple of years with the Pandemic, ended up in the hospital for a week with COVID 19 Delta variant, almost killed me, blood clots scattered through my lungs, that was scary stuff. The thing that helped was walking as much as I could do then do it again, got out of the hospital before Christmas, returned to work in February 2022, still battling the blood clots in the lungs but winning the fight.
2022; joined my longtime friend Mike Kitchen and his son and grandson on a motorcycle trip on the Idaho BDR (back country discovery route), realized that I was in way over my head with off-road riding skills, and returned home with a pulled muscle in my back, no crashes for me but in serious pain. Mike crashed and broke his ankle, I’m thinking I’ll stick to paved roads and the occasional dirt road.
