James's Story
In 1966, my family moved from Shreveport, Louisiana, to Carthage, Texas. I had attended Southern Hills Elementary in Shreveport through the 3rd grade. I am sure all my classmates in Shreveport and in all the schools thereafter remember me as "Jimmy."
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades were terrific in Shreveport. At that young age, my clear, high voice made me the star soloist in the school plays. Those were the days. I also have some wonderful memories of some wonderfully sweet girls there. Wish I could hear from them again.
I started the 4th grade at Baker Elementary in Carthage. I had some great times in Carthage with Little League baseball and other activities. I also had some great friends in Carthage and I regret that I didn't get to know other classmates there who I thought were really great.
We moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, during the Christmas vacation in December 1971, leaving all my Carthage friends and memories behind. Going to a new high school in the middle of my freshman year was tough, but I survived well enough at Acadiana High School. I still want to know who it was that put an anonymous Valentine card in my locker. I have my suspicions... but I also have my fantasies.
I majored in Applied Arts (Advertising Design) at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL), now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I received my Bachelor's degree in 1979 and moved to Houston, Texas.

After the 1986 oil-bust in Houston, I concentrated on developing a unique style of oil-painting based on television pixels. Unfortunately, that style was ahead of its time.
In the early 1990s, I received training as a paralegal and was employed by Enron Corp in their Houston corporate headquarters. While there, I opened the door for a new temporary employee, later to become my wife. At least one good thing was the result of Enron.
In 1993, I married that temporary employee and we spent our honeymoon driving our car and a U-Haul to New York City, where I attended the Art Students League of New York and worked out of a Jersey City, New Jersey, studio with 5 other artists for the next 12 years.
I am and artist/photographer in New York. I have had several photos published in New York Magazine, the New York Press, and Town & Country Magazine - Philippines edition, along with Christmas and note cards published by "Message from New York." My paintings are mostly in the tradition of the Old Masters, which I studied at the Art Students League, but I am now resurrecting my pixelistic style of painting which I originated in the 1980s. My wife and I live in Brooklyn, New York.
