joan's Story
I graduated from St.Barnabas HS in 1970 and then from Iona College in 1974. I married the love of my life Mark Niciu (also from Yonkers) in 1975. We have been happily married for 36 years!! We have two wonderful sons, Mark and Tommy. I have been a Catholic school teacher for 36 years- the first five in St. Margaret Mary's in the Bronx and the last thirty-one years at Holy Name of Jesus in Valhalla. My sister Patti lives in Yorktown and my brother Tommy lives in Wappinger Falls. Mark and I bought a house in Hawthorne in 1987 and raised our sons here. Our son Mark is married and just completed his residency at Yale. He has both an MD and a PhD. His specialty is clinical psychiatry. He recently began a fellowship at the National Institue of Health.. Our son Tommy is also married (to a Yonkers girl!) and is the assistant superintendent of the Peekskill Waste Water Plant for Westchester, He accomplished this at a very young age! Tommy and his wife Stacey are expecting their first baby in May 2013! Mark and I are so excited to welcome our first grandchild!! Both of my sons are products of Catholic education. They are the best sons any mother could have! My husband and I have been truly blessed! We are so proud of them both!
