Joanne's Story
Joanne was born in Muskegon, Michigan; however, "home" has been many places. She grew up in Muskegon and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Oak Lawn (Chicago) and Bourbonnais (Kankakee), Illinois; Athens, Greece; and Las Vegas, Nevada. She has lived in Las Vegas for 35 years, so it has been home for a long time. Greece, though, will forever be home in her heart
Joanne's schools include Hellenic International High School (in the suburbs of Athens) and Bishop Gorman High School (in Las Vegas). Joanne later attended City Colleges of Chicago (A.A.Sc. Computer Science) , University of Nevada, Las Vegas (B..A. in Communication Studies--Broadcast Journalism & English; M.A. and doctoral studies in English), and Troy State University (M.Sc. in Management).
One of Joanne's favorite quotes is:"Cheerfulness, it would appear, is a matter which depends fully as much on the state of things within, as on the state of things without and around us" by her favorite author, Charlotte Bronte.

an, who has embraced the Greek culture that Joanne loves so much She was married for nine years to the late Allan Padderud, until he died after a three-year battle with cancer.
Joanne and Mike have a dog, Athena (the little Greek goddess), who is a willful, energetic Miniature Pinscher. They also have two cats, Pandora (a.k.a. "Trouble") and Portia (named for Shakespeare's heroine), who are actual sisters from the same litter. They were rescued from a farm in Colorado by friends when they were a couple of days old, and Joanne and Mike adopted them when they were two months old.
Joanne has been the Librarian at Bishop Gorman High School (her alma mater) for 20 years; prior to that, she taught English at Bishop Gorman and also at UNLV. She loves technology, and has enjoyed making the digital shift in the library, where she loves teaching students how to search for resources using technology and the library's electronic resources, and how to best use those resources in their work and document them appropriately.
