Joanne's Story
Life
Since high school graduation, I received my Bachelor's degree in International Relations at Boston University in 1990. While at BU undergrad I went to Egypt (Alexandria and Cairo) for 6 weeks and spent my junior year in the French Alps in Grenoble, France. While there, I played field hockey for the city and received a medal from the French field hockey federation for my esprit de corps.
I joined State Street Corporation in 1989, and have left and returned twice. Once to finish my MBA at Boston University in 1997, and the second time to pursue a position at a web page design and development company. My final position at State Street was in State Street Global Advisor's (SSgA)Internet Group as the Quality Assurance and Site Support manager. I left in 2006 to go to Suffolk University Law School and will graduate and take the bar in 2009.
I was married briefly, but divorced in December 2003. It was a difficult year, but I am creating a new life for myself, and am very happy with my new apartment, my job, friends and family.... and new car, a blue Mini Cooper!
College
I attended both undergraduate and graduate school at Boston University. Undergraduate was 1986-1990, where I spent my junior year in Grenoble, France, which is in the Frenc...Expand for more
h Alps. I graduated cum laude with a degree in International Relations and minor in French. Three of my closest friends come from my 4 years in college, and I keep in touch with all of them. The only thing I would have changed about undergraduate years, is I would like to have played a team sport, but I had to work to earn money.
For Graduate school, I received my MBA in 1997. A business and management degree was the perfect match with my international relations degree. I feel the two degrees give me balance in my current work position.
In 2006, I started law school at Suffolk University Law School and will graduate and take the bar exam in 2009. I have had great internships at the US Attorney's Office in Boston, the MA Appeals Court and the MA Attorney General's Office.
Workplace
I spent over 15 years at State Street Corporation. I left twice, to obtain my MBA and to try out another company, but I eventually returned to great opportunities. I got great on the job experience in account reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, internal consulting, and at my last position, web site design and support. Eventually, I would like to find a position in public service, which is why I am now in law school. I'll let you know what happens!
