Jodie's Story
Jodie is from New York, New York. e resides in Newport News, Virginia. Jodie graduated from Art And Design, Hampton University and New York University. He has had a wonderful career as an educator, administrator, city commissioner and entreuponer
Jodie Ansel James celebrates his thirteenth season as an Artistic Director/Co. Founder of Rite of Passage Experience (R.O.P.E.) Theater Company, Inc.(now R.O.P.E. Theater Academy 2019) along with his musically talented partner, Phyllis Raye Holland of twenty seven years. He has been credited with directing over 35 musical and theater arts experiences as well being sought out as a consultant/facilitator of a variety of hands-on workshops and seminars. He has successfully concluded six Annual 6-week sessions of the King Solomon James Youth Musical Theater Summer Camps involving over 420 youth and crafting his One-Man Show entitled, "Make Them Hear You!".
"Scoop", as he has been affectionately called, directs projects which will challenge as well as enlighten audiences on timely issues of the day. assil's production, "Clowns" featuring 60 young people trying to find their own identities; and Bertha Knottâs, âAbuse and Incestâ, which led audiencesâ dialogue to avenues for individual healing and national assistance. His 2015 production entitled âAs Easter Dawns,â led ecumenical diverse audiences to discuss the thought, (âDoes church need to be govern as a business?â) Jodie has also directed James Baldwinâs, âThe Amen Corner,â âChristmas Comes Uptownâ, Another diverse cast adaptation of âThe Christmas Carolâ and Gian-Carl Menottiâs beloved opera, âAmahl and the Night Visitorsâ featuring the Peninsula Youth Orchestra and guest musicians.
R.O.P.E. Theater Company, Inc. has received many awards to include funding from the National Endowment of the Arts, The Virginia Commission for the Arts, The Hampton Commission for the Arts, Target, INSYNC Partnerships, Alternatives, Inc., the 21st Century Foundation, Inc. and a wide range of company stakeholders to include businesses, religious, educational, civic, and social organizations. Jodie enjoys, musical theater, cooking, playing chess and traveling. His hobbies include Lionel trains and "green thumbin" his plants.
