Joe's Story
Joe is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is married with Barbara Unger Brostowicz. His schools include LaSalle College Prep High School, St. Josaphat School. He later attended LaSalle University (Biology). He works(ed) at National Park Service.

More about Joe:"I have a unique way of looking at the world. I see everyone as my friend and like nothing better than to talk, and I guess now talk over the computer, with people, especially those from my past, seems the way of the world. I am, amongst other things, a Luddites, a group in industrializing England. They did not believe in machines at all, and I still believe that computers will ultimately be the end of our civilization. I refuse to lower myself to lie, steal, hurt anyone, or do anything unethical. But can a computer ever care about the feelings of man or the Laws of God. When artificial intelligence is perfected, and it does exist, and the computer is programmed to get rid of what is less efficient, and man is the most inefficient of all tools, would it not follow that the computer would find a way to take care to get rid of the inefficient, and we will have programmed ourselves into extinction. As technology doubles every 18 months, this means that we are in a dangerous time. My philosophy is consistent with my views. I would like to live in a small, self sufficient community, far enough away from mass civilization so that we are not overrun by the masses hunting for food. N One of my loves is history, A Franklin Scholar and specialize in 1850-1910, socio-economic-political history. I collect vinyl records (and thousands of CDâs, as well as collecting historical, baseball a toys from the 1900âs to the 80âs, as well as other material culture. ions. Once, while teaching at a prep school and I took a class to computer lab, and I told what I thought was a joke. I said: âWhen I went to this school they had a reception for parents when they went to all electric Typewritersâ, and they looked at me as if I was from another world, until one asked âwhat is a typewriter. Another teacher there picked me up, explained what a typewriter was and said that they had one, in a cabinet in the secretaryâs office. Later the secretary told me, you were the person who had kids coming back asking to see the typewriter, and she didnât know where it was at first. But overall, my personality is a reflection of the Principles of the Grateful Dead., when they came to town, and I mean every town, the followers set up a camp city, selling crafts of all kinds and some of the best vegetarian food I ever had. Everybody respects everyone; no one cares what you wear, what they look like. Everyone who needs a ticket finds kindness every night. I believe you could leave an open bag of money 2 hours before the show and pick it up 2 hours after the show; a dollar would not be missing. We believe that we are all in this together. During the show everyone is standing, doing their own dance and singing along on every song, and yet we collect more and more shows. There is never a song played the same way twice. Our leader, Jerry, passed with a smile on his face. He had his problems, but never will you find a more generous, down to earth man. The 4 remaining live members have their own bands and play together as âTHE DEADâ. Iâve never heard a fight or arguing at a show. We build true Karma. Now Iâm a staunch Catholic, but have been to other dimensions myself. One night in June of 2004, at the song Sugaree, the song that got me into the dead, and I felt myself becoming part of a mass of positive energy, and I saw Jerry in the sky over the stage, in his customary smile, above the stage in the sky. Walking out of the show you could feel a difference. There was a young girl sitting on the ground looking spaced. My whole group was ahead of me, I smile and talk and hug people walking out, and she said she saw Jerry, when I asked when, she said at the beginning of Sugaree, and he was grinning and nodding. Now, I no longer thought I was crazy, we found another guy wandering in circles, and he repeated the same story. I may have found more, but my wife and the others in my group were yelling at me to come on. Thus I do believe in alternate states of consciousness. Phil says every night that itâs not the band making the music, but that our consciousness gives them the energy to play and they could feel from the audience what to play next.
