Joe's Story
Graduated from Florida State in Math & Physics and Indiana University in Nuclear Physics. Employed as a Post-Doc at the IU Cyclotron Facility for 3 years in Nuclear Physics. Then on to supporting computer usage/users in various capacities at Purdue University for over 25 years. Currently manage a staff who help faculty use technology to support/enhance teaching and learning.
Always had a devotion to one avocation after another. In high school it was chess; then billiards in college; backgammon in graduate school;bridge after that; and finally golf which is my current passion.
Lived with the same woman for almost 30 years, who I met at IU and married in Las Vegas. Though we had planned it for a year, only the couple who stood in for us knew it was happening at the time. we have a lot of friends and family in the area, and so plan to retire here.
Kept up with very few of my Leto classmates; the exception being Manny Sosa, my best friend from high school. I've only been back to the 20th reunion. Most of my family, including my parents, died many years ago so I don't have as much of a draw to return.
My mother gave me a plaque when I was very young which stated "There is only one success in life, and that is to live it in your own way"; a mantra I have always tried to follow.
It's surprising who you think about from time to time, so many years removed from high school. Many of those people aren't on classmates.com so you wonder what they have made of their lives, are they happy, or if they even are still around. It's quite sobering to have friends and family pass away, and I hope all of you have had a minimum of that in your lives. Best wishes to all of you.
