Joe's Story
Well, I joined the military in '88 as an electronics technician: Timothy, Gary and I were in boot camp together in Great Lakes, IL. Upon graduation, I completed my submarine and electronics training in Groton, CT ('88-'90).
I was stationed in Norfolk, VA on the Flying Fish for 2 years - hated being on the sub, but met some incredible brothers whom I still consider my family even though I haven't spoken to many of them in years!
My son was born in '91 to a young woman I befriended while my sub was in dry-dock. I later served on board the USS LY Spear for 2 years in the Mast and Antenna Shop. I married my first wife in '93 (a Norfolk native - we divorced in '98).
Transferred from there in '94 to Jacksonville, FL were I served as a law enforcement officer on NAS Cecil Field. I had a BAL...Expand for more
L in J-Ville - too much fun!
'97 received my honorable discharge from the Navy after serving for 8 years and 10 months. I moved to Atlanta, GA looking to complete my engineering degree.
Surprisingly, I ended up at GSU in the Computer Science program. My intention was to transfer to GA Tech - but I met the love of my life at GSU, changed my major to Middle Childhood Education once we married in '99 to expedite my graduation. I finished my MCE degree in '00 and began teaching immediately there after.
I currently have 4 children (one son, and 3 daughters) and am teaching 6th grade math at a school in Lithonia, GA.
For all my long lost friends and family, hit me up at four, zero, four, seven, two, three, nine, six, four, seven.
Looking forward to hearing everyone else's story...! LOL, Joe
