Joe's Story

Life Now living in with wife of 7 years, whom I met while working over the last decade for Dell, Inc. My wife also worked for Dell from 1990-1998, until we were married. We have lived in Austin, Chicago, New York, and California. One of the most eventful life-changing events for me was when my lovely wife, Ann, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, which had taken her grandmother and mother's lives, and from which her sister too was diagnosed, but was a survivor. Today, my wife is a 3-year survivor of breast cancer, after undergoing nearly a year of surgeries and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and today we are both extremely active in the cancer communities of Austin, Chicago, and beautiful Southern California, where we now make our home (Laguna Beach, CA). We love the year-round 60-80 degree weather and our home here in Laguna, with which we've been blessed to enjoy an 180 degree view of the Pacific Ocean, and where (I couldn't leave this part out!) we are lulled to sleep every night with all our windows and doors open to the sound of the surf tumbling on the beach below... In terms of my career(s), I've had the pleasure and adventure of having careers in both the entreprenuerial AND the corporate arenas, and enjoying what I consider fairly marked success in each of them. In my mid-20's (1987) I launched, managed, and ultimately grew a commercial construction/contract supply company in New York, which I happily sold to a much larger regional competitor in 1993, and for which I was recognized by the NY SBA (Small Business Administration) as their Entreprenuer of the Year in 1991. I also founded an international trade brokerage in New York in 1990, from which I gained a tremendous amount of global business experience, and afforded me the ability to see the world. I happily divested from this venture in 1994, and was subsequently recruited by Michael Dell's littl...Expand for more
e direct marketing company, to help lead his "Hunter" sales program, which was focused solely on acquiring those customers specifically from the Global Fortune 500. I was blessed to enjoy a wonderful career with Dell, primarily as a Fortune 500 Global Account Executive, but also served rotations in Marketing, Finance, Operations, and Management. Dell too afforded me the wonderful opportunity to further my global travel and experiences. In fact, I was recognized/awarded Dell's Account Representative of the Year in 1999 through my acquisitions of such high-profile Fortune 100 accounts as $250M/year giants like Motorola, Chrysler, and Goodyear, to name a few of the 40 accounts I acquired during the course of my career. My wife retired from Dell in 1998, and I did so this year. I now occassionally work as an independent contractor/consultant for our federal government's intelligence community in various operations around the world -- primarily Latin America, India, and in West and South Africa. I can also be found doing a variety of consulting work, primarily as a sales coach/consultant to small and medium businesses entities in a variety of industries. We have no children at present, but we do have a 5-year old Yellow Labrador named Ranger, who might qualify as well be our child based on the degree to which he is spoiled. Seriously, those of you who might remember my younger sister, Leah, who is happily married and lives in Houston with her husband and her 2 young sons, combined with my wife's 20+ nieces, nephews, and cousins, and we have plenty of children upon whom we are blessed to be able to lavish a our time, attention, and love. I hope that those of you reading this bio finds each of you leading happy, healthy, and prosperous lives. Drop me a line sometime to let me know how you're doing, and about the significant events in your life. Most Sincerely, Joe Guzzardo
