Joe's Story
Life
After one year at WCSC, I worked at "the Local" for 2 years (at the same time humorist Dave Barry worked there). Then I worked for my uncle Sam for 2 years in Carlisle Pa, Fort Sill OK, and Vietnam. It was in the Army that I started my career in environmental health. I worked at Chester County Health Dept., then went to Ferris State College in Michigan. I've worked for 3 county and state health depts. in Michigan and 3 in Minnesota where I've lived for 20 years. Sue and I have been married for 31 years (as of 2013) and we have 2 wonderful girls.

Military
I enlisted in the US Army in May 1971 because I would have been drafted the next month. I had plans for that summer, so I enlisted with a 6 month delayed entry. After finishing basic training at Ft. Dix, NJ, I was sent to Ft. Sam Houston TX for training as a medic. What a mistake!! I kept fainting during the training films, so I transferred to preventive medicine. I served at Carlisle Barracks PA; Saigon & Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam; and Ft. Sill OK. That experience let to my career in environmental health.
