Joe's Story

Life Life stuff... ok. I'm a single parent (divorced in 1997) with full custody of my awesome 9 year old son. He's a straight A student, and he's a very well behaved kid who's really fun to be around. We're living in a great apartment north of the river in KC, and we're still working toward getting our first house. Apartment life is sooo easy though, it's hard to give up. School I really enjoyed how goofy and fun Mr. Scott was in Biology. I wish I had taken the time to take more classes from him. Oddly, there wasn't really any teacher who inspired me in high school, and looking back, the whole high school experience has had little effect on my life as a whole. Graduation seems such a small step when compared to Marriage, Children, Family, and good friends, and the events in life that they take part in. If I could do it all again, I would definitely have gotten better grades. I was soooo bored in high school. Perhaps I was a bit socially inept due to the two years I spent in bed sick just before I hit high school. I think that became quite obvious, and I believe that like most kids, my self image was quite lacking. I seem to have recovered nicely as I have some very awesome, incredibly talented, and quite successful friends who have been more supportive than I could have imagined. I had no idea that I could inspire such loyalty and dedication from my friends. Now I'm the one who inspires family and friends, and I've become the big shoulder for those in need. It's a good feeling. College I've been in and out of college, and still haven't completed my degree, but I hope to be a teacher if I can get finished. ing to school definitely helps with taking any literature or writing courses. I went to Longview Community College for a while, then took specific computer and technology courses through work for a while. I ended up at Maple Woods just a couple of years ago to do some more coursework to get ready to pursue my teaching degree. I think all of this life experience can enrich what I can bring to the table to teach kids. At least I'll be a fun teacher who's not an ass. Workplace To put it quite plainly, I've had quite a few jobs, and in different career paths. I've always succeed where I go, but it was really very difficult to decide what I really enjoy. I think more than anything I've enjoyed my writing. I was published, and invented a game. I had my own column in a local entertainment magazine for about a year. I'm pursuing some other writing avenues, but of course being a teacher will likely be my final career destination. Currently I work for the Department of the Treasury. I don't think I'd trade any six figure salary for the life experience, and fun I've had figuring out my path. I've learned so much, and I can't imagine how taking a traditional education/career path could be more life enriching than the life I've lived so far. I made plenty of mistakes, but I learned from them all. I didn't always like myself, or the things I did, but in the end, and after all these years, the most important thing I've learned is to live life with Honor, and that kindness can buy you a world of happiness. You can live a wonderful full life without the big house, and the nice car, but it's nice to have those. I'm still working on the house part though ;)
