Joel's Story
After graduation I wanted to see the world. Phil and I went to Eastern Oregon and worked on my brother's cattle ranch before starting college. Graduated in '83 from Gustavus in Minnesota with a bachelors degree in Business, (marketing) and History. While in college I spent a year in Europe, traveled every opportunity I had. Met up with Donny Jones in Finland when he was on a church mission, had a great time! Went to the Univ. of Copenhagen. I
moved back to Seattle, worked for Holland America Westours as a tour director while I also worked on my teaching credential at UW. The job at Holland America didn't pay much but it was the BEST job ever! I worked there summers from 1983 - 94. That's where I met my wife, we were married in 1990. We have ...Expand for more
one son who graduated from MHS in 2013. He went to Boise State and graduated from there in 2017 with a degree in International business. I became a teacher at our beloved MHS in 1987, taught and coached there for ten years. Became Assistant Principal of Monroe Middle for two years, then was Principal there for four years. Went to Monroe Junior high as Asst. Principal for two years and also was Athletic Director. The last several years I've been at Park Place Middle as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. I'm in the same place we graduated from but the building is all different. I didn't get far.
I didn't plan on coming back to Monroe but life and fate are funny friends. Monroe has changed a great deal but still a nice place to live.
