Joel's Story
There have been many updates since my last posting. As I stated in the beginning, the love of my life... beautiful, caring, and wonderful women who captured my heart and soul from the first time we met has made me her husband. We recently celebrated the birth of our beautiful daughter Madelynn (June 2008) to our family during my last leave in the U.S. (Photo added to album). I am looking forward to spending much needed time with my family, it has been difficult... inspiring, joyous, tragic and unlike anything I have ever experienced and the sacrifices that are involved have only solidified our relationship.
I will complete my tour here in Iraq sometime in the fall of 2009. I accepted a new position Sept. 2008 as an Instructor and Trainer for Camp Fiji "Specialized Training Division" Baghdad. Our team of police officers implement tactical and survival skills in advanced training for the Basic Recruits. Our military counterparts the 8th Brigade out of Hawaii work in conjunction with training as we push towards a positive step with the local nationals. As stated before about the video, it was not approved to be posted, but photos will be updated from time to time. Take Care and God Bless.
I added a new update, but it looks as if it didn't save. So I will write up another one. I have returned to Iraq to finish up my contract with the State Department. Recently was transferred ...Expand for more
from station visits to local iraqi police stations to Furat Police Training Academy. Furat is the largest academy located in Baghdad. We average approximately 1,500 to 2,000 iraqi graduates per class. I have a great team I work with, both law enforcement personnel from the states and military personnel from Delaware. We are all assigned to the 18th MP Brigade. I recently have been asked to extend an additional 7 months due to positive progressiveness of the academy. A good friend of mine Kai from Hawaii-Honolulu PD and I are currently building a Law Enforcement obstacle course for the academy. It has been a huge hit for both military, local nationals, and the state department. It should be completed in the next month. After I receive permission from higher up, I will post the video. Until then, I will be home in June to see family and friends. Take care, and God Bless.
Life
Hi everyone! Recently returned from Iraq after a one year tour with the Department of Defense, working as a police liaison training Iraqi Police Officers stationed in Baghdad. I am home on a medical leave due to an injury, and have another seven months to complete. Not certain if I will be returning due to recent changes with the love of my life. Most likely will work with another agency or be assigned to a government job. Prior to that worked with a local law enforcement agency for eight years.
