Joelle's Story
Life
Upon graduation, I attended the University of Iowa and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1991 and my Master of Arts in Counselor Education in 1995. I am an alumni of the Beta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. I met my husband in Iowa City while working at the All American Deli in Old Capitol Mall. His name was Ronald Roets. We married under that name in 1995, but changed our last name to McDermott (Ron's birth name) in 2002. We moved to East Davenport and have lived there ever since. I am hoping that we can move to a house in Bettendorf in the next few years.
I worked as an Employment Consultant for Vera French Community Mental Health Center from 1997-2001. In 2001, I took a job as a Rehabilitation Counselor for Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (State of Iowa), and am presently employed there. I also hold a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the...Expand for more
State of Iowa. My husband is a Journeyman Electrician employed by IBEW Local #145. He is currently working for Russell Electric.
Ron and I had fraternal twin boys in 2002. Their names are Cullen and Egan. Those of you who attended the 15th class reunion may remember that I was there (and really big!) at 38 weeks pregnant. I had the twins one week later. We had a daughter, Gianna, in January 2005. We also have two cats named Clovis and Quincy.
I am an active member of the Quad Cities Mothers of Twins Club and served as Co President from 2003-2005. (qcmotc dot org) I also enjoy buying and selling Gymboree clothes for my daughter on Ebay, as well as cooking, and reading books on true crime, psychology, and parenting. I also enjoy participating in several local walks including the March of Dimes March for Babies, NAMI Walks for the Mind of America, Race for the Cure, and the Bix.
