John's Story
In 1967 I transferred from Kenyon College to the University of Edinburgh, where I got a BSc in Ecological Science, followed by a PhD in Ecology & Resource Management. Whilst doing my PhD in Inverness & Ross-shire I joined the 2nd Battalion of the 51st Highland Volunteers, & was commisioned at RMA Sandhurst in 1977. In 1978 I went to South Africa to give my sister Connie a hand with her PhD research into Chacma baboo...Expand for more
ns. I also went to Zimbabwe-Rhodesia to support the govt of Bishop Muzarewa. In 1980-81 I spent a year as a Lt in 1st Bn Queens Own Highlanders, serving mostly in Hong Kong. In '81 I went back to Scotland; & in '89 moved to my current home in Easter Ross in the Highlands. Between 1995 & 2002 I did 7 operational tours as a staff officer (major) with various headquarters in Croatia, Bosnia & Kosovo. I'm now retired.
