John's Story
School
1943 I started school at Glen Jean Elememtary. We lived on my grandmother's farm at Hilltop.I walked about a mile out to the hard road as we called it then to catch the schoolbus. As I passed my grandmother's barn my Aunt was milking the cows and started singing the song "Johnny got a Zero, Johnny gat a Zera, Johnny got a Zero today. Still remember that. ha. ha. Later that year my Dad bought our first house and we moved to Gatewood. We lived there for three years. One night I was awakened and asked if I wanted to get up and watch my school house burn down as it was on fire. I did and enjoyed it very much Then we moved to Scarbro where I finished my elementary education before enrolling at Collins High. I attended Collins High for two years, then my family relocated to Akron...Expand for more
Ohio. I graduated from South High in 1955. In the fall of 1955 I enrolled at Akron University and attended for two years. That is the extent of my formal education. My informal education happened during every day life experiences. That educational school hasn't let out yet. It is 24/7, 52 weeks a year, with no vacation time. There are times that I loved it and there are times that I haven't. No two days are alike in this school and you learn. Some of the lessons are exhilarating and some turn out to be quite painful. Decide where you want to go! Learn how to get there.
Develope the needed discipline. Reap the benefits. Sounds simple, Huh.
Mix emotions with this education and that's called life. Hope you enjoy yours.
In 2016 Marsha and I relocated to Walhalla, South Carolina.
