John's Story
Right after SPHS in 1974, I went to Virginia Tech with a lot of my best friends. I graduated in 78 with an engineering degree but I stayed on and got a masters degree in June 79. Then in three weeks, I got married to Martha who I met at VT, had a honeymoon and drove to CA and started a job.
I worked at Amdahl in Sunnyvale (SF Bay Area) designing mainframe computers for 21.5 years until Fujitsu LTD bought us and moved all engineering development to Japan. I got a nice severance package so I crammed trips to MD/VA/NC, Italy and Hawaii into six weeks. Then un...Expand for more
fortunately I was diagnosed with cancer but some quick surgery and radiation later I am fine. Then I took a job at VERITAS Software as VP of Engineering Operations and we were bought by Symantec in 2005. I left in 2008 and goofed off just like last time but now I think I need to get a job.
Martha and I have two kids, Chris and Amanda, who are 24 and 21. We will have been very happily married for 30 years in July 2009 but I still introduce her as my first wife (just to make her mad).
My dad still lives in the Baltimore area so I go back a few times a year.
