John Bennett's Story
June 1966 little did we know the physics of time; us, young full of energy with nothing but tomorrows ahead of us. And so here we are todayâ¦me an old fart with my Miller Light. And so it goes, and so it goes.
After I graduated, Ron Fulkerson and I took a road trip through the western states, free birds before going into the Navy. I was in the Navy from November 2, 1966 to October 27, 1970, trained in aviation electronics, stationed in Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island NAS, Washington. I served two oversea tours onboard aircraft carriers, USS Ranger and the USS America.
Once discharged I moved back to Inglewood but was alienated and found solace in alcohol and drugs. I took a four-month road trip across the US after reading Jack Kerouac (I was into the Beat writers and Hesse). I decided during that trip I needed to make a major changed and moved to St. Cloud Minnesota were I went to St. Cloud State University, graduating with a BA in History and English. Later finding an interest in child development, especially cognitive development, I received my MS in Child Development from St. Cloud State (1983).

brought into the world two daughters. I worked as an Advocate at the St. Cloud VA Medical from 1977 to 1985. I then worked for the state of Minnesota from 1985 to 1999 with the Ombudsman Office for Mental Health and Mental Retardation as the Deputy Ombudsman. I quit my job with the state in spring of 1999 and took up networking, got my Microsoft Certification in networking. From 2000 to 2013 I worked as a Network Manager for Ramsey County, St. Paul, Minnesota. I retired in 2013 and live in a sweet apartment overlooking the mighty Mississippi.
In 1986 I divorced and the remarried in February 1988 and still happily married 28 years later. The last time I was in Inglewood was 2006 for my nephewâs weddingâ¦it was November and wow, coming from Minnesota that weather was just damn nice!
I have two daughters, Jennifer and Sarah. My wife, Marj has a daughter, Missy and a son, Ben. Between them we have seven grandkids. My oldest daughter Jennifer is a full professor, Dr. Waldron, at University of Northern Iowa, and my number two daughter is an Information Systems Manager for Wells Fargo.
Iâm looking forward to 50th get together.
