John's Story
Life
I left school in 1980 only to discover that I don't wear poverty well. After a few years of goofing off, I rolled up my sleeves and graduated from UC Davis in 1987 with BS in biochemistry, and I've been working in the environmental field for the past 15 years. I met a lovely woman while at UCD and we've been married for 21 years and have two children (9th and 11th grade). I've made up for my non-athletic youth with years of competitive fencing (epee, if you're curious) and distance running. I've left the fencing to the young guys but I still run to excess. I've run dozens of marathons and ultras--including the Western States 100 in 2003, the Boston marathon, and I ran 2:48 at the California International Marathon in 2006. I'm still in the hunt for new personal bests at all distances.
