John's Story

Hi there to every one in the Class of 1977 and surrounding class. I was never much of a talker in school, and still stay pretty much to my self. When I graduated from school, I went on to work in the construction field, running heavy equipment on a union company wage. But I've never been able to plant my feet on the ground for any length of time, and went off driving truck all over the country, hauling Anderson Windows mostly to the Long Island, New York area. My return trips would take me to the south east areas. Then in the late 80's, I contracted to a produce transportation company out of Saint Paul, MN and hauled produce to Canada until one day I arrived back home at my door step and my oldest baby girl at the age of three ask her mommy who that man was coming through the door. That was all I needed to know, that I had enough of the over the road trips. I opened a repair shop facilities in River Falls, Wi. Working on trucks from around the area and afar, my big brake was to hook up a contract with DTI Truck out of South Dakota, owner Wayne Penske. This was a very good opportunity for my company, Midland Service Center, Inc. A lot of good times, But all good things come to an end, and I found my self employed with Quality Asphalt, Inc driving truck for them hauling and operating the paver. Then came the mid ninety's and I have two little girls Brittany Hope and Whitney Kay. Brit is Seven and Whit is six and Carley Jean is on the way. She was born on August/9/1996. My little pumpkin pie was born with many health complication problems, and we were going to have to hire a full time nurse to help us if we were to both stay working. So, I chose to quit my job and stay home with her and care for my daughter. Now, I knew that Carley would need to have handicap needs, so we started to rebuild the house I grew up in, and bought from my parents in 1979. It sat next to the O H Anderson Elementary on Wa...Expand for more
rner Ave. I built a foundation almost all the way around the old foundation 12 feet out further in the front, and 22 feet out further in the rear of the home, then it went up 4.5 feet in the air. And, I enclosed the old floor plan inside of the new one. Then, I cut the old house down to the floor and tossed it out the master bedroom's bay window. The family had a lot of fun while this took place. It was a young families dream, and it would be impossible for me to live in some thing as that today. I could do it, again, I loved every minute. Our little Baby Carley Jean Bruening died in the early morning hours of April 9, 1998. And, our life started to crash faster then you can say fuzzy pickles. My wife at the time, wanted to have another child, and I refused to. Our divorce was hard on us, but more on the kids. They still don't talk to me a lot. Our divorce was final in the spring of 2002, and the lovely ex-wife had a new baby boy about two weeks later. I pray for her, but it hasn't helped me. Oh, yes it has, I'm in a great place in my live, broke but happy. After all that, I formed a company BWC Foundation, Inc. - Brittany, Whitney, and Carley, and I contracted snow removal and plowed snow for Century College, Fleet Farm in Oakdale, Mn, Fleet Farm in Hudson, Wi, and RPS Distribution. What a life! Oh, I forgot to include that I fell and had a severe head trauma, leaving me in a coma for seven days from July 31, 2001 to August 7, 2001 while I was going trough a divorce. The lovely bride had taken me off her company health insurance policy leaving me an uninsured person to be taken to the cleaners, by the big insurance companies. And, who did she work for, Saint Paul Fire and Marine, now Travelers Insurance. Forgive and forget, God is Great-Beer is Good-and People are Crazy. I just hope every one that reads this has had as much Love and Life as I have. Peace Out to the Class of 1977 - John R Bruening
