John's Story
A week after our group picture was taken in the school yard, my parents moved to Grand Island. I went to 9th grade on the island but while still living on the island I went to Williamsville High School for grades 10, 11 and 12th, what a daily commute all those years. Then graduated from Niagara Falls Community College with an Associates Degree in Applied Science for Electrical Technology. Then hired by General Electric in Syracuse, NY, spent 10 years there traveling around the world working on our Nike Missile Defense System for the U.S. Army, then 5 years working on our Alaska Spacetrack System which was operated by the Air Force. After tiring of all the travel, I settled down in southern California for 20 years. Moved to Florida for 2 years to follow my job, then transferred to Boston for 5 years, then ...Expand for more
to Virginia Beach for 3 years. Left that job after 27 years and moved to Charlotte, NC where I have lived for the last 17 years.
I just uploaded our class picture, my mother gave it to me last year, I had no idea that she had kept it all these years.
I spent the first 20 years of my working career on very large, expensive, and complicated electronic systems, then I was promoted to middle management for two different national facility departments overseeing 1200 stores.
After reviewing our class photo I can see that we were all secure in our little world revolving around PS-45, then most went to Lafyette High School down Baynes Street but then we scattered in too many different ways to count. In looking back from 2016, I wish we could have stayed in that 1959 world and became closer friends.
