I’m John Cantrell — Dawn Cantrell’s little brother. Family and friends called her “Tooty.”
I was only three when she passed away suddenly in the summer of 1973, just months after her wedding, so my own memories of her are almost none.
Everything I know about the big sister I lost has come from photographs, her guitar, and poring over her 1971 Hardaway yearbook — I’ve read every single inscription in it hundreds of times, searching the words her classmates wrote for clues about the girl...Expand for more
with the big smile who made everyone feel seen. I know she loved art (vice-president of the Art Club), loved music, and had a gentle way about her that people still remember.
I finally joined Classmates hoping a few of you might still carry a story, a snapshot, or even the smallest moment from those days. Anything at all would mean the world and would help fill in the picture for the little brother who never got the chance to really know her.
