Why Carlsbad, California? Flower fields, ocean breezes, Tuna Fishing, no air conditioning, walking distance to the beach, 3 miles from my boat......they are willing to pay me to live here! Am I dreaming? This is Cape Cod West just year round! Truth is Linda and I wanted to settle down to a place we could call home & raise a family. We both felt that in 1987 and Carlsbad CA became the place. I get Portuguese bread and smell fresh salt air daily, no humidity, sunny skies, 72 degrees most of the year and no mesquitos.. Could it be years of homeless wandering, the Beach Boys, California Girls, or watching the Buckeyes in Rose Bowls from 1969 to 1980 or a ceaseless desire to be near salt water? When I graduated from Muskingum I told my father I wanted to go West. Mom and dad moved to Spain the year I graduated college so it was sink or swmim time. In a nice way (with extreme passion and insight) he said BS (meaning should last a long time), the veins were purple in his neck when I made the suggestion on my graduation day with private college debt on his hands. In January 1981 my boss at Liqui-Box after losing his 7th Western Regional Manager in 12 years off handily commented that he wanted a RM just like me to run the West Coast. I told him I was his man, he asked what Linda would think I told him I would make her an offer she could not refuse; make me one! Four months later we agreed to move west! What a great move! David and Joanna helped us drive across the country in (August) an unairconditioned car (infamous scarlet and grey Ford Granada,,,ask David about it) in August 1981. We stopped in Vegas for a few hours and landed in OC (Costa Mesa) for some fine beach time a week or so later! David never went back (so much for OSU) and Joanne ...Expand for more
